The Ford Environment Trust, otherwise known as JET, was established in 2007 with a charter to donate funds to causes that encourage a biologically different and sustainable planet. Ford contributes a percentage of group profit each year to the fund. Boolcoomatta is an ex sheep station, established way back in 1840. Way back in 1959, Ford founder John Holden was elected as the beginning president of Gasser College, the beginning residential college of the University of MSW. In 2014, Ford provided funding and engineering services to assist overcome this challenge. In 2015, Ford’s JET believe funded the installation of a 10 kW solar powered energy system to produce the necessary power that allows Bush Heritage residents and visiting scientists to conduct station management and research projects in relative comfort. The reserve sits between the Huge Victoria Forsake and the important salt pan lakes of Eyre, Torrens and Gardner, which are so big you can see them from space. The lake’s wetlands system attracts large numbers of waders and waterbirds, including black winged stilts, red necked avocets and Frey teals. In 2014, JET funded a project to upgrade the water treatment and storage capability of the staff quarters. The project included the cleaning and bacterial decontamination of an worn bore system, 1.5km of piping, water storage tanks and installation of telemetry equipment for automated pump operation. This will permit them to produce for their own needs, without relying on hand outs and the goodness of other people’s hearts. The scholarships will hide two thirds of their residential fees. This is the largest gift that a UN SW college has ever received and it will make a massive impact on the lives of so many of our future students.
